Dear 2013: A Series of Questions

Hi, friends!  Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to great things in the New Year.

Today, I am linking up with Amanda at The Lady Okie and her friend Beka for a Dear 2013 Linkup post!

I loved Amanda's post, so I am going to use her awesome questions in mine too. So, here they are, with a few random pictures interspersed, because what good is a blog post without pictures?!

I am late with this linkup, as always.  But I hope you still enjoy!

13 Things You Should Ask Yourself
Before The End of 2013

1.  What am I most proud of this year?
I think the one thing I am most proud of this year is how far we have come with our relationship with my husband's family.  We were able to attend his sister's wedding in September, which is a HUGE milestone considering the history there.  God is so good and so faithful.

2.  How can I become a better ____________?
Wife.  This coming year, I want to be more intentional about treating my husband with kindness, respect, and love.  Of all the women in the world, God chose me as the perfect fit for him.  He deserves my best.

3.  Where do I need to allow myself grace?
Oh, wow.  Everywhere!  I am always hard on myself.  In my opinion, there is a fine line between allowing grace and justifying your bad decisions.  In 2014, I want to give my all and do my best in everything I attempt, but also find that balance where I allow some grace when I fall short.  After all, God extends me grace every.single.day.  I should do the same for myself.

4.  Am I passionate about my career?
Absolutely!  My job drives me bonkers some days, but I love what I do.  I couldn't ask for anything more.  I truly enjoy the career path that God has laid out for me.

5.  What did my finances look like?
Overall, not bad.  We were able to save enough to pay cash for our vacation to the Smoky Mountains and for Christmas.  There were some tight months, but God blessed every time and saw us through.

6.  How did I spend my free time?
On social media.  Ha!  Seriously, though, I spent wayyyy too much time online in 2013. I definitely want to scale back in this upcoming year and be more present with my hubs and family.  I also spent a lot of time reading and trying new recipes.

7.  What projects have I completed?
This is a tough one, because I didn't have any "projects" in the works, per se.  I filled up my china cabinet that Hubby gave me last Christmas with loads of vintage Pyrex dishes.  And I added tremendous amounts of albums to my record collection. Do those count as a projects?  (Just kidding!  Sort of...)

8.  In what ways can I restructure my time?
See #6.  I will have tons more available time if I spend less on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  I also want to spend more time in the Word in the coming year.

9.  When have I felt the most alive?
It is hard for me to pick one particular time on this one.  I would have to say during church, worshiping with fellow believers and letting the Spirit move.  That's when I feel the most alive.

10.  How can I improve my relationships?
The top thing I need to do is pray for those relationships more often.  Anything nurtured with prayer has a much greater success rate.  Aside from that, I would like to call and write to people more often.  I want to focus on improving my attitude, because too often, I fail at extending grace to my friends and family.

11.  What lessons have I learned in 2013?
Things don't always turn out the way I planned, but God has it under control.
Turning over your worries to God is such a relief and comfort, when you actually do it and mean it.

12.  What old habits would I like to release?
Speaking before I think things through.
Being less judgmental and more compassionate.

13. What new habits would I like to cultivate?
See #8.  I want to study and pray more.
Daily exercise and healthier food selection.

Have a blessed New Year's Day celebration!

Babies & Books & Catching Up

So, after that realllllly long blogging break I took, I think I want to start writing again.  It just seems that life is so busy, I don't have time to keep up like I would like to.  I'm too busy living to WRITE about life, it seems.  But, like all things, if something is important, you'll make time for it.  So, I'm gonna try again.  We shall see how long it lasts.

Now...where to start?  I got a new nephew in September!  My baby sisters last baby (or, at least she says it's her last..ha!).  We call him Z and he is the sweetest little guy on the planet!  I love him so much!

Just a few hours old

Baby Z...3 weeks old
Isn't he just the most precious little guy ever?  He definitely melts his auntie's heart!

My sweet mama had hip replacement surgery about a month after Z was born.  She's recovering quite nicely and went back to work today.  God is so good and I am thankful for the healing He's done and is still doing.

I made my very first batch of homemade elderberry syrup in October.  So far, it's doing the trick (aside from a minor cold last week).  And it's easy to make and super inexpensive!  Check out the recipe for yourself here.

I've been reading this book, and let me tell you, it's a real eye-opener!  I would definitely recommend it to mama's who have kiddos with food allergies.  I had no idea how many hidden toxins are in our food that have caused the rise of the food allergy epidemic.  The book is written by the founder of AllergyKids and it's full of practical suggestions to help clean up your family's diet without a bunch of scientific lingo that no one can understand.  Check it out if you are interested in weaning your family off of dangerous chemicals without the suggestions to raise your own goats, make your own cheese and spend hours grinding wheat that are found in most books of this kind.  :)

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with our family last week.  I took no pictures.  Sigh.  But it was a very blessed day.  We ate, talked, laughed, ate, visited, put up the Christmas tree, ate...well, you get the idea.  It was great to be able to get together with family that we don't see often.  God's good, y'all.

If you're still reading and hanging in there with me, kudos to you!  And thanks!  I do appreciate it.  On a final note for today, my sweet boss and one of my very best friends has been on maternity leave for the last 12 weeks.  She came back to work today (thank You, Jesus!).  Last week, she gave me this incredible gift for taking over her job duties while she was out.

Vintage Pyrex primary color refrigerator dishes.  Oh.my.word!  That girl is amazing!

Y'all have a great week, friends!

The Days Are Long, But The Years Are Short

Tomorrow is my birthday.

The big 3-1.

Man, time sure does fly, doesn't it?

via

The years are short...never has a truer statement been spoken (or written).  It seems like 31 years have flown by.  God has truly blessed me.

Today, on the eve of my birthday, I want to thank Him for so many good things in my life...

  • Salvation:  Without the blood that Jesus shed to cover my sins and the promise of a home with Him in heaven someday, my life would mean nothing.  I can never thank Him enough.
  • Grace:  I couldn't face the big life events OR the day-to-day happenings without God's abundant grace.
  • Hubby:  God sure did bless me when He sent me that sweet man of mine.  I don't tell him often enough how thankful I am for him and for everything he does for our family.  So, honey, if you are reading this, I love you and I thank God for putting us together.  You are amazing!
  • Family:  I have the best.  God gave me wonderful Christian parents who took me to church and taught me about Jesus. They gave me the best sister I could ask for, who gave me the most precious nieces and nephews in the whole world!  I am so thankful for all of them!
  • Church:  God has blessed me with a wonderful church family at a place that worships Him in spirit and truth.  Doesn't get any better than that!
  • Career:  Although my desire is to be a stay-at-home wife/mom someday, God has seen fit at this time in my life to provide me with a career that I enjoy and co-workers that are like family.  I am blessed to have a job that I love.
  • All the little things:  There are so many more things that I am blessed with and thankful for.  God is so good to me!
Tomorrow, I will turn 31.  I am going to go to work, and then spend the evening with Hubby (who has a special dinner planned for me, which I am super excited about!!)

I hope you all have a blessed week!

Blessed

I am so blessed.

Hubby and I had a wonderful Easter weekend!  We spent time with the fam, coloring eggs, hunting eggs, eating, and most importantly, praising a risen Savior!

Hope you all had a fabulous celebration, too!  Now for some pictures from our weekend.
